Volume 4, April 2010
He is Risen, Indeed!
This past weekend Christians around the world celebrated the death and
resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The words of Christ
on the cross, "My God, My God, why
hast Thou forsaken Me...It is
finished," and the words of the angel at the tomb, "He is not here, for
He is risen as He said," mark the two most pivotal moments in
the
Christian faith and in the history of the world.
But as followers of Christ, we are not to bask in the afterglow of the
resurrection, but rather, we are to follow Christ's command to spread
the Gospel to the ends of the earth. At St. Paul Press, that is what
our mission is: to spread the Gospel via books and other
literature by any means necessary. Thank you for uniting with us to
accomplish this task.

Expanded E-Book
Availability
As
you probably have heard by now, Apple Inc.'s much hyped tablet, the iPad, was released on
Saturday, April 3, 2010. One of the capabilities of this innovative
device is its ability to read e-books via the iBooks
application. Over the past year, e-books have grown into a
major literary market and will only continue to grow in the coming
months. According to the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF),
in January 2010 alone, the reported U.S. wholesale ebook sales for
January 2010 were $31.9 million, a 261 percent increase from the
same month a year earlier.
St. Paul Press has made all of its titles
available on two major e-book readers--the Amazon
Kindle and the Sony
Reader. Throughout this month, St. Paul Press will be working to
make its books available as e-books in the iBookstore so that Apple
iPad users can purchase and easily download your book. All St. Paul
Press books are already available on the iPad via the Amazon Kindle
App. Along with the iPad, St. Paul Press will be working to make its
titles available on the Barnes and Noble Nook.
Because e-books cost much less to produce and distribute than print
books, e-bookstores and e-book retailers pay authors and publishers a
much higher royalty rate than print bookstores and print book
retailers. In our May 2010 newsletter, we will have more details on
e-book royalties for authors once we have the e-book distribution
finalized.
St. Paul Press believes that e-books are the future of publishing, and
when you choose to publish your book with St. Paul Press, your title
will be made available to all major e-book readers and in major e-book
reading formats.

Growing in the Character
of Christ
by Rev. Edmund Sackey-Brown
In
this book, Rev. Edmund Sackey-Brown lays a great emphasis on the need
for the believer to grow into Christ-like character through a
systematic growth concept. The world is desperately in need of
salvation, therefore our lifestyle should be such that it will bring
people to Christ. The call to discipleship means living fully for God.
It is living a life of righteousness and faith, and being an example of
Christ, both in word and deed in this crooked and perverse generation.
This book will show you how to attain spiritual maturity and grow into
the image and likeness of Christ.

Hearing From God When
Writing Your Book
Pat McGuffin
What
a massive endeavor - to consider writing a Christian book to assist
God's people in moving forward in their lives. Although excited with
the prospect of writing and publishing your book, at the same time you
feel overwhelmed with the task before you in representing God's heart
through the written word. Everything inside you reminds you that you
are a needy person...needy to connect with God. You may have no trouble
talking to God, but how are you at listening? The real issue is hearing
from God in prayer.

Christian Books Do
Not Fly Off the Shelves, Someone Has to Push Them
Donald L. Hughes
I
once spoke with a woman who had written a Christian book and I asked
her what plans she had to promote it. She said, "I don't intend to
promote it, that's the publisher's responsibility." Wrong answer. There
used to be a time when publishers promoted books, now about all they do
is issue catalogs and put them in the hands of overworked traveling
bookstore reps. Once upon a time publishers had big publicity
departments which set up author tours, book signings and radio and
television interviews.

Ebooks - An Emerging
Christian Book Market
Jacyee Aniagolu-Johnson
In
recent years, the ebook publishing market, which has literally exploded
in the secular world, is also rapidly becoming an emerging Christian
book market. While recent trend of ebook sales may have seen
intermittent decline at specific quarters within the past years, ebook
sales have also during other quarters reported dramatic increases (1)
and experts are still optimistic that ebooks are the future direction;
that is in the long run. Some analysts have suggested that any decline
of ebook sales seen this year may be attributed to the flooding of the
ebook secular market with many low quality materials; this is pretty
obvious and one does not need to be an expert to observe this.
